swimwear-Vitamin-A-558x390Hooray for beach season! Now that summer has officially started, I’m seriously plotting some beach time to lay in the sand and frolic in the surf with family and friends. In my excitement for beach fun, I went down the internet rabbit hole looking for a bathing suit that fits me well and won’t fall apart after one swim. My search led me to find eco-friendly bathing suits…I didn’t even know they existed!

Green Feminine Hygiene Queens, rejoice! There’s some fly styles available in all sorts of shapes, sizes and cuts that are made from recycled and organic materials, are sweatshop free and made in the U.S.A. Here are some of the best of the bunch:

Vitamin A is a sexy and sustainable swimwear company based in Southern California that has been seen on fabulous women including Heidi Klum, Halle Berry and Jessica Alba. Designer Ahmalia Stevens founded her business in 2000 using the special EcoLux, locally produced fabric, along with Repreve which is an eco-friendly fabric used in many bathing suits. She’s known for her “California cut” and created a solid following from this specialty. Vitamin A offers mix and match bikinis, coverups and wraps in a variety of colors and patterns covering all of your beachwear needs.

Eco Swim is another earth-friendly company that specializes in making fashionable swimwear from recycled and sustainable materials and “reducing your carbon footprint in the sand.” They are based in Pennsylvania and although they have global reach, all of their suits are made here in the United States. Their commitment to sustainability includes a corporate ban on products like styrofoam and participation in beach clean-up programs. So how can you find Eco Swim? The cool thing is that their suits are in a bunch of different retail stores so you can physically go pick one up, or you can shop online to your heart’s content. They have one-pieces, tankinis, bikinis and all sorts of pretty beach garb.

Finally, make sure you check out Faherty, a brand and company created by twin brothers with a penchant for fashion, design and sustainability. They only launched a year ago and have been featured in GQ and Vogue, and a few months ago opened their flagship store in Soho, New York City. Faherty uses only recycled materials to make their swimwear and, like us here at Maxim Hygiene, uses 100% organic cotton for their clothing. Their bathing suits are made from their “innovative blend of recycled polyester from plastic bottles blended with Lycra,” and are made in a small family owned factory in India that reuses water used to wash and soften the clothes. I personally am in love with their one-piece suits in funky prints or bright solid colors but they have a variety of bikini designs and fun beach fashion.

With these eco-friendly fashions, you can make a bold statement on the beach by being a gorgeous, earth-loving green feminine hygiene queen!
